Show of hands if you are so over hearing those excuses in the workplace when leaders make these proclamations from on high dictating a new office policy or rule, offering no further explanations or extending offers of discussion.
Today's employee is more empowered than ever before and I'm all for it. Even the most straight laced of us, the ones who don't like to rock the boat or call attention to themselves in the office, can admit that these calls to action from on high are borderline straight up bullying.
What is with these calls to return to the office or risk losing your job? Are they serious? That is about as far from being inclusive and forward thinking as one can get. That is not leadership. That is not showing strength. If anything is it showing cowardice and close-mindedness.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news for leaders who operate with this closed mindset but I'm afraid the days of employees following blindly along are O-V-E-R. Thats right, over. Or at the very least, they should be.
I say the time has come for us to question what doesn't feel right. To question what doesn't seem appropriate, diverse or inclusive. It's time for the questions to be raised, albeit in a professional and respectful way, but still, being asked.
Staying silent is so 2019.
